Ho Chi Minh City: the new Saigon

Dernière mise à jour : 15 mars 2019

Feeling like discovering a totally new culture? Then Ho Chi Minh is where you should go. Located in southern Vietnam, this city formerly known as Saigon has a genuinely rich culture with loads of monuments to see. But the Vietnamese culture inhabiting these monuments can also be seen anywhere in the streets of Ho Chi Minh. So grab your passport, open your eyes and get ready to be stunned.

Visit the historic Independence Palace

You know that building where a fence got destroyed by a massive tank? That’s the one! Now being used as a museum rather than having a political and diplomatic role, the Independence Palace holds a huge part of the city’s – and the whole country’s, really – history. You can either take a guided tour or visit the building on your own, but one thing is sure: you’re gonna need quite a lot of time if you want to see everything.

Discover the Post Office

Unless you have a postcard to send out, I bet you never put a foot in a post office when you abroad, am I right? Well, that’s something you should definitely do while you’re in Ho Chi Minh. The Post Office, which is located in one of the fanciest districts of the city, is stunningly decorated and once you look up, it’ll make you lose your minds. Clocks, portraits, ceiling designs, counters… so much to see!

That ceiling, though

Visit the Saigon Opera House and see a show there!

Remember when I talked about how present the culture is in this city? It’s honestly doesn’t get better than the Saigon Opera House. This mind-blowingly designed building is an absolute must-see. If you get a ticket to any show there, you will have access to a free guided tour – which you can also take without seeing a show. There often are circus-like performances going on, it’s definitely worth seeing if you ask me.

Inception?

Cross the Starlight Bridge

This is one atypical and rather unknown spots of Ho Chi Minh – unknown to most tourists, granted. Wanna chill and take a stroll when evening falls? Choose this gorgeous bridge and literally walk on stars while you take a stunning glimpse at the city by the water. Stunning we said. Stunning. And then you can head into one of the malls nearby to do some shipping!

Not a sky full of stars
