Naples: Welcome to Italy. The real Italy.

Dernière mise à jour : 13 mars 2019

Located in the south of the country, Naples is the embodiment of a genuine Italy. In a city dominated by the Mob, you feel like you are actually experiencing the Italian life rather than actually feeling like a tourist. And that ain’t bad at all! With its various districts and it being 40 minutes away from Pompeii, Naples is the perfect gateway for a weekend with friends, family, or on your own!

Spoiler: we ate a lot of pizza!

Here we will share with you some of our favorite spots in Naples. You can find more photographs in the “portfolio’ section of our website!

The Historic City Center

This is the ONE thing you can’t miss in Naples! Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Historic City Center has beautiful street and buildings, and stunning churches. You might want to check which monuments are open because sometimes some of them are closing for refurbishment and you only learn that when you are trying to get in! Otherwise, this is totally worth taking half a day to visit. You just walk and walk and walk and it’ll take you to astonishing places, we promise!

Pompeii

Imagine a place where people used to live. A place that has then become like a ghost time. That’s Pompeii. After you take the Circumvesuviana line from the Garibaldi Station, you arrive in one heck of a history site! You feel impressed by how huge it seems from the outside? Wait ‘till you enter the site.

There are thousands of roads to take, hundreds of buildings, theatres, gardens, churches and more to see. Our advice to really enjoy your time there? Do not follow a plan. Just walk. Walk literally anywhere and you’ll find stuff you didn’t think you’d see!

Just check the weather before you leave, we were welcomed by a nice snow storm when we were there, and it can ruin your experience…

Looking Over Pompeii...

Quartieri Spagnoli

Once you find one of the – quite discrete – tiny streets on the Via Toledo, you are immerged in a little Spanish district filled with drying-clothes, altars and people speaking Spanish! We actually didn’t know there was a Spanish District when we arrived, we just found a cute little street and felt like wandering around. There aren’t much to see, but you do feel like you’re in a different environment, and it’s always interesting to see different lifestyles within one city.

Galleria Umberto I

In the heart of the city, not too far from the harbor, you will find this immense gallery with a breath-taking glass ceiling to make you lose your minds. If you stay there long enough, you might encounter street performers that will offer their arts in this beautiful place. This gallery is a must for day-visits. Although it is less impressive, you can totally get a glimpse of that place at nighttime. If you can do both, that’s even better! You’ll find cafés and souvenir shops and some restaurants as well. And don’t forget to look up… and down!

Look Up!

Piazza del Plebiscito

Squares in Naples are numerous, but only one feels HUUUUGE. The Piazza del Plebiscito is located by the harbor right behind the Teatro San Carlo and is one of the most stunning places of the city. We strongly suggest you see this square both during the day and at night. During the day, you will be able to see how humongous it is (and you can also go and visit the Basilica San Francesco di Paola). At night-time, you’ll discover the moving-lights that decorate that building. Totally worth the time!
