Wanna experience the American Dream? Take your plane ticket to New York City right away then! …well maybe you can take it after winning the lottery – that’d be safer.
NYC being a city with sooooooooooooooooooo many things to do and see is absolutely NOT a rumor! There are indeed sooooooooooooooooooo many things to do and see! Of course, we won’t be listing every single must-see in the city (I mean, we could but you’d still be reading that article next month). Here we will share with you our favorite things to do in New York City. Like always, you can find a whole gallery with more photographs from our time there in the “portfolio” tab.
Visit the World Trade Center Memorial
Moving, inspiring, touching and heart-wrenching. These four words describe this place. The World Trade Center Memorial (also known as the 9/11 Memorial) takes you through all kinds of emotions as you stand where a world-known tragedy happened a little less than 20 years ago. We strongly encourage you to get there, to visit the Museum and to walk where thousands lost their lives.
Take a glimpse of the Grand Central Terminal
One of the most iconic spots in New York City – one that is often seen in movies – is the Grand Central Terminal. With a stunning artsy ceiling, this is a must-see, even if you don’t actually want to take a train! Walk around, look up, take pictures, walk around and enjoy. That’s this simple!
Walk along the High Line
Never heard of it? Have no clue what it is? No worries, we didn’t either before we got there. The High Line – which used to be a transport line – has been made into a public garden and pathway, a bit like la Coulée Verte or la Petite Ceinture de Paris. That’s the perfect spot to just chill out and discover lower Manhattan on a sunny day. What’s more is that it can take you to Ground Zero, where the 9/11 Memorial is. Sounds awesome, doesn’t it?
Go to the top of the Rockefeller Center and fall in love with the view (or with someone if you’re lucky)
While it is one of the most touristy things to do, it’s pretty much something you can’t not do. Especially at nighttime. You get a view over the entirety of New York, you see Central Park, Ground Zero, the Hudon River and way more. Honestly, if you can see it at both daytime and nighttime, it’s the best. Mind you, there are a LOT of people wanting to go up, so either book tickets in advance or take your patience along with you!
Go see a Broadway show!
Last but not least, New York City’s purest and finest: Broadway. With its 41 theatres and as many productions running, you can easily find something that will appeal to you: plays, musicals, dance, comedy...
Try the TKTS booth of the BroadwayBox website to snag some discounts before – let’s face it – it can be really expensive. If you can book in advance, we recommend you do. You’ll save time and money.
We hope this has helped you figure out what to do and where to go while you’re in the Big Apple. And remember – like we always say – sometimes, lose yourself. Do not follow a plan, follow your heart! (So poetic, right?).
